On November 11, 2011, as I was riding through Edinburgh on my Yamaha Dragstar, a car on the opposite side of the road suddenly turned right, colliding with my motorcycle.

My right leg took the brunt of the impact. I suffered a fractured tibia and fibula and underwent surgery to have metal rods, plates and pins inserted into my lower leg.

One of my friends had recently had a motorcycle accident and, when he visited me in hospital, he told me about the excellent legal service he was receiving from Brenda Mitchell of Motorcycle Law Scotland with his motorcycle accident and injury case. I hadn’t given compensation much thought but my friend gave me Brenda’s business card and suggested I call her – and I’m very glad I did.

After speaking to Brenda, she came to the hospital to have a chat with me about the accident and the compensation I might be entitled to and, when I was discharged from hospital, I gave Brenda the go-ahead to proceed with my motorcycle accident and injury case.

As my compensation claim went through, Brenda kept me fully informed of what was happening, both by email and with regular phone calls. Brenda also phoned me just to find out how I was, which, as she also rides motorcycles, usually ended up as long chats about bikes.

In no time at all, I received the full value of my motorcycle and all the storage costs from the car driver’s insurance company, which was a fantastic relief.

Then, out of the blue, they also offered to settle out of court for my injuries, which Brenda invited me to Motorcycle Law Scotland’s Edinburgh office to discuss. Brenda told me in layman’s terms exactly what everything meant and, after discussing the offer with my wife, I decided to accept.

I was more than delighted with the amount of compensation I received – but it wasn’t just about money. Being awarded compensation also gave myself and my family closure. We were able to move on.
